Easter Eggs and Mate

Sunday morning at the E.T. Seton range, and these two gentlemen are just the epitome of laid-back. Chatting between shots, they stop every now and then to have a cup of the maté they bring along in a thermos. After a few volleys, one of them asks me if I've lost any arrows. Now, I've sent a few over the target butt and a few to the sides but I swear it's because I'm trying out a new anchor point. Usually, I do get them on the butt, if not on the paper. However, I'm glad he asked because he tipped me off to a very cool thing.

Some clever archer has placed a bin in a stand of trees just outside of the range (to the South.) In the bin, are arrows that people have found on the field. I just love the quiet ingenuity and co-operativeness that you see in this place. Someone has tacked a piece of rubber at the top of one of the butts to support heavier targets. Another person brought in some milk cartons that serve multiple functions: bow/arrow stand for those that don't have their own, step-stool for short archers who get one stuck high in the wood. Also, the bin feels a bit like a treasure chest. A giant geocache. That someone has to let you in on. A very nice touch, so thanks to whoever contributed it.

Tara Vaughan lives with Rob Cruise and their pooches, Artemis and Louis in the East end of Toronto.  They sort of dabbled in archery for a long time but actually got equipment a couple of years ago.  Tara's loving it and Toronto and - Hey, look!  She has a blog about them.
