This is a fantastic place in Mrs. Sauga, open to the public, where you can learn and love archery and fencing. Ron's baby is a gem, and it's the only place like this that we know of in all of Canada: Not only do archers learn their stuff, but it's a real home base for them, a community. With organized lessons for recurve archers, open range time and bi-monthly tournaments for their regulars, there are lots of occasions for their gang to mingle, not to mention a place where NCCP can host coach training. The place was full of folks (Ron, flashing a movie star smile, included) joshing around. Joshing. Thank you, OCCS. The world needs more joshing.
I thought it was really neat was that one of the participants in our workshop had been encouraged as a member of the OCCS community to get trained up so she can help with coaching. Ron puts a lot of effort into fostering members into expanding their skills and taking on roles to get more involved in their sport. He's growing the sport both by the facility he forged and the community he has put together.
A number of people have noted that the facility is what it is as a result of Ron's blood, sweat and tears, and it looks like a lot of people are benefiting from his effort. We had a brief chat about the range and business that I want to establish and his advice was "stick with it" and that is what I plan on doing but if you haven't yet, take a second to complete the survey up there on the right side, I want your opinion, too!
