What makes this tournament unique is that it’s a social event first and a tournament second. Archery is an individual sport but that doesn’t mean you have to be alone when you do archery. Typically, when you face your opponent, you go silent and serious. You’re focused on the goal to win. You won’t find that at the Seton tourney. Everyone is chatting and laughing on the side lines and on the shooting line. Yes, there’s eliminations and the desire to get the coveted 1st place trophy but that’s not the driving force to be part of this tournament.
If I had to take a guess, I would say the primary reason people come out is… for the BBQ. And why not! It’s a potluck style BBQ where everyone brings a little something to the table, and the stuff people bring is anything but little! This year our palates were filled with steamy corn, juicy burgers, and some succulent ribs! My theory behind this great BBQ phenomena is that we archers must come from a lineage of past archers who hunted for food. So we know a thing or two about BBQs deep down in our DNA. Well, that’s my working theory.
My second guess as to why people come out to the tourney is because of the people. We all see each other here and there at the range and chat with one and other on the Facebook group but they’re always fleeting moments. This event gives us a chance to set a side some time and come down knowing that people will be there. We find ourselves making new friends whom we would never have ever met other wise.
Anticipations are now set for the 3rd annual Seton tourney. By the time you hold an event for the 3rd year, it stops being unofficial and becomes officially, official.
